About Our Parish
Humble Beginnings
If you turn the pages of history back over 145 years to 1870 the first instance of Polish Catholics coming together as a community took place here in Wyandotte. That year Mr Anthony Leszcynski organized 37 Polish men living in Wyandotte into the St Stanislaus Kostka Society. These fellows were united in the idea that they had something in common and needed to work together to preserve their Polish heritage in their new country. They knew, if they united, they would be able to do something big and something solid, something that would last.
Their little group continued to grow and within 29 years, those 37 men became 200 families and those families became the parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. That was a name they rarely used, as English was not their first language. They called their new parish Matki Boskiej Skaplerzniej, which translates to Our Lady of the Scapular. The very first pastor was Fr. Bernard Zmijiewski.
Growing Through Change
The decision was made to build a church and in 1899 they laid the cornerstone in the northwest part of Wyandotte that was called, at that time, Glenwood. All of Polish Wyandotte was united and grew, until 1914, just one year before the present church building was built, when another Polish parish was born in the northeast part of Wyandotte called Ford City. It was the parish of St Stanislaus Kostka and its first pastor was Fr Alexander Konus. .
Wyandotte's Polonia community was growing like wildfire and so, 11 years after the founding of St Stanislaus Kostka yet another Polish Parish was welcomed to the community, St Helena was located on the south side of Wyandotte and the first pastor was
Fr Albert Mrowka.
These three fine parishes served their communities well. They offered the experience of ultimate unity, the reception of the Holy Eucharist. All three parishes separately kept alive the dream and goal of those 37 pioneering Poles who loved God and country fiercely, to come together and pray in Catholic tradition. A tradition that had been passed down from their own family in the Polish nation and allowed to grow in their family through faith. Reuniting for the Future
Today the three parish communities have come full circle, coming back as a single Polish community within the original church building. We are building on the old values of faith and community started so many years ago by those 37 men and the St Stanislaus Kostka Society. THe Archdiocese of Detroit reunited the three parishes into a single community so that we may some together in the most unifying manner of all, with Our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus who unites us with Himself and with each other in the sharing of His most Hold Body and Blood. This is the unity we share above all, around the altar in praise and thanksgiving to God, who never stops calling His people to be one with Him

Eighth Day You give us hope, O Mother of Mercy, that through your Scapular promise we might quickly pass through the fires of purgatory to the Kingdom of your Son. Be our comfort and our hope. Grant that our hope may not be in vain but that, ever faithful to your Son and to you, we may speedily enjoy after death the blessed company of Jesus and the saints.

Ninth Day O Most Holy Mother of Mount Carmel, when asked by a saint to grant privileges to the family of Carmel, you gave assurance of your Motherly love and help to those faithful to you and to your Son. Behold us, your children.
We glory in wearing your holy habit, which makes us members of your family of Carmel, through which we shall have your powerful protection in life, at death and even after death.
Look down with love, O Gate of Heaven, on all those now in their last agony! Look down graciously, O Virgin, Flower of Carmel, on all those in need of help!
Look down mercifully, O Mother of our Savior, on all those who do not know that they are numbered among your children.
Look down tenderly, O Queen of All Saints, on the poor souls!
